Black Science by Rick Remender (2009)

The author of Low, Rick Remender, has a few other series out there, including one called Black Science. In this series, a group of people create an inter-dimensional portal that moves them across parallel worlds with the hope of discovering technological advancements in those other worlds they can spread around to create peace and prosperity across the rest of the "eververse".
This portal's inaugural flight is full of problems though: the portal is sabotaged by one of the crew so they can neither control the worlds they enter or the length of time they stay; the crew accidentally included a few kids and officeworkers; and the eververse is filled with worlds that want to kill them.
Kinda like a dark version of the TV series Sliders but more complex and fantastical, it's been an interesting read through the first 3 volumes, and is recommended, though not as highly as Low. The guy 's writing style is a bit grim, so don't expect a happy series with this one. 4/5
