The Dead Zone (1979) by Stephen King

During a trip to New York I got to read Stephen King's "The Dead Zone". What I found nice about this book was that the characters were generally realistic, and all had some significant flaws to themselves. The main character Johnny Smith fades in and out of his own story to give us several interesting tales, and Greg Stillson is the shadow that threads the stories together.

I liked it and thought it had a lot of good ideas in it. I do feel it's a little bit dated in the ideas (maybe the gender stereotypes are a little much, but I think that can be a common issue with a lot of earlier Stephen King novels). I heard the Stillson character hit a little close to home with more recent politics, which led to a bit of a revival in the tale recently. It was fairly quick read for me, which is always a good sign for a good story. 4/5
