12 Angry Men (1957)

Last night watched the classic 12 Angry Men (1957) again - it's been a while. Starring Henry Fonda, it was the only film he produced (he didn't like it at all - he didn't like watching himself on film when filming).

This also had Lee J. Cobb, Jack Klugman, and Ed Begley in it. It's about a jury deliberating a murder case, so these 12 men got locked in the jury room following the trial until they reached a resolution.almost all of the movie happens in that single room, so the story and drama is heavily driven by the excellent character actors that are there. The camera work is also a character here, as it gives an increased level of claustrophobia as the faces get closer and closer to the camera to build tension.

Sidney Lumet's first film (beforehand he did TV work for CBS) and easily one of his best, I reviewed it years ago and it still holds at 10/10. It's a positive reflection of how the US judicial system operates and is a nice reminder of how jury duty works for the people. 10/10
