Adaptation (2002) is a weird film about orchids, screenwriting, and Charlie Kaufman. Starring Nicolas Cage as Charlie and his twin brother Donald, and Meryl Streep as the New Yorker journalist, this goes from strange to weird to other strange over 2 hours. It's definitely a film to appreciate for the writing - as it talks about screenwriting tropes, and what to/not-to do in stories. The last 30ish minutes is definitely a turn for the worse, but it remains a really interesting film considering it was a follow-up to Kaufman's screenplay Being John Malkovich (1999), and equally weird. I gave it a 6/10 on 7/3/2004 - now 15 years later I'm willing to bump it up a little to 7/10, if only because it is so bizarre to watch. 7/10
