Cowboy Bebop (2021)

If you get past the first episode, it's a decent series. It does a few things like much, much better than the original series:

  1. Julia is given more dimension/screen-time in this version. In the anime she merely exists.
  2. This series highlighted the best/better of the anime. Rewatching the anime I personally think over half of them are fluff.
  3. There's no Ed. She's a mix of comic relief and exposition in the anime, but she'd be waaaay too much a distraction for this season.
I'm not entirely sure why purists aren't fans of this series. I think ultimately I like this a little more than the anime, if only because it tells a story more succinctly and with a little more life to it. Going through this season, you got more well-rounded characters, and better stories around the characters instead of superficial ones. And lastly, it's always good having some way introducing the series to younger audiences, rather than having a fandom fade into oblivion because fans are sanctimonious about the original.

Definitely not perfect, but I was glad they made this one and kept it fresh. 7/10
