I wanted to do a top ten list of movies that weren't strictly the films I liked this year, but also films I would highly recommend to others. So films that left the most recent best impressions? I also wanted to make sure they weren't high profile films, because I feel like putting The Godfather (I/II) would be a waste of time if you're reading this. I think mentioned all the below films over the last year, so this is a quick rundown.
10. The Brood (8/10) - A mother has deep psychological issues, but still impacts the lives of her daughter and estranged husband.
9. Throne of Blood (9/10) - Kurosawa's MacBeth.
8. The Other Side of the Wind (9/10) - A 30 year old Orson Welles film starring John Huston is completed and available on Netflix.
7. Disenchantment (8/10) - The creator of The Simpsons and Futurama gives us a medieval tale on Netflix that has more depth than it initially suggests.
6. Maniac (9/10) - Drugs are bad for Emma Stone and Jonah Hill on Netflix.
5. The Ruling Class (8/10) - Peter O'Toole is a British lord who think's he is Jesus.
4. Kagemusha (10/10) - A criminal is brought up as a political decoy for a dying DaimyĆ?.
3. Bicycle Thieves (10/10) - A 1949 film revolving around a man's bicycle getting stolen, and how he aims to get it and his livelihood back.
2. Mulholland Dr. (10/10) - David Lynch's story kinda about murder, amnesia, and acting.
1. House (8/10) - House is best classified as horror/fantasy, and is one of the strangest films from the 70s. Created as a japanese response to the american film Jaws, it's a bizarre story of a house eating school girls. 8/10

During the flight back to Seattle I watched Disenchantment (2018) on Netflix. It's a Matt Groening joint that is somewhat similar to Futurama, but is medieval-themed and not as goofy as the Simpsons or Futurama was. There's a plot that carries over the 10 episode season, and although the characters follow the Groening pattern (Bart-like Elf, Bender-like Demon, Boozy Princess) it was a lot more serious than I expected, with some less expected twists included. Looks like it'll be more than one season ahead, and it should be an interesting watch as it continues. 7/10
