Finally got to watching Doctor Who, Season 11 (2018). It felt like a getting-back-to-basics season, with three companions (one character traveling with their grandchild, which is a shout out to the beginning of the classic series; also one's a police officer which was reminiscent of Bernard Cribbins' character in the Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. film of 1966). It also has these "educational moments" to them, which was also in the early classic series episodes, but eventually got lost over time.
This season felt more down to Earth - so to speak - than previous seasons. The showrunner (writer) is Chris Chibnall, who did some of the newer episodes and Torchwood episodes, and also did the crime drama series Broadchurch. The filming quality bothers me a little (it has those JJ Abrams Star Trek lens flare/weird focus moments) but the characters are interesting and coming along fairly well. I'm not sure where this series will go, but it was a decent reset in my opinion. Stories were mostly mediocre - nothing pops like Blink for instance - but it was alright. 6/10
