I liked Season 12 a lot. In this case, it feels like showrunner Chris Chibnall is doing his own thing while rummaging around trashing Doctor Who canon, and it looks like he did his homework. He's called up some staples like the Cybermen and Judoon, as well as deeper cuts like references to Enlightenment (5th Doctor) and The Royal Assassin (4th Doctor). Maybe we'll get Dominators or Yeti under his tenure someday. And this season also delves into some of the plot that had some foundation set up under the the doctor but never really came to fruition after the Classic series' cancellation in 1989. There's some writing that says it's recycling fan material, but I'm personally ok with that so long as there's recognition where appropriate.
Anyways, The Doctor and her 3 companions hop around with generally good stories (better than the previous season in my opinion). There's one episode that's a little weak, but I think especially the multipart episodes (at the beginning and end of the season) are done well. Personally I thought the last episode was particularly mad, and really punctuates the season in a good way. If you're expecting the Davies/Tennant era doctor here you'll be out of luck, but I've enjoyed the inventiveness of this round. 8/10
