Frozen II (2019)

It's surprising it's been 6 years since Frozen (2013). I won't do a formal review of it, because I don't remember it quite as well as I should for a formal review. Currently let's assume it was 7/10 (good story, interesting CG, catchy but ultimately vanilla songs) though so I can start the review of Frozen II (2019).

Following a time after the first film's ending, the sequel goes back to the lives of Elsa and Anna, this time with a call on the wind haunting Elsa to solve a mystery concealed in the forest fog.

The story is pretty standard Disney, unlike the previous film which as I recall was notable for bucking some of the tropes in Disney princess movies. This didn't really have any of that. This movie channels the elements the same way Avatar: The Last Airbender or Captain Planet did, which made me cringe a bit. I personally think the song quality was about the same: though less catchy the songs seemed a big more interesting to listen to. The CG stands out in this film, with some absolutely stellar visuals (the horse, the water and the snow related scenes especially). The film didn't have as much humor in it - Olaf was like 50% philosopher in this one, and Christoph was mostly in the background outside of a great song with his reindeer.

And although one Olaf scene in particular feels like it channels the Avengers, it was still a fairly fun - albeit darker - film. I don't like the Frozen franchise enough to buy it, but it remains interesting to watch. 6/10
