Galaxy Express 999 (1979)

Galaxy Express 999 (1979) is an older film based on a manga of the same name. I felt like I had seen it before, but couldn't really recall anything about it. So in this movie, Tetsuro it trying to get a train ticket so he can kill the machine that killed his mother. With the blonde haired Maetel as his traveling companion, they go on a few adventures. Ultimately a story of love, revenge, betrayal and hope.

It definitely has its flaws, with a plot confusing at some times, and unnecessary in others (sky captain in particular confuses me). The characters feel thin, but there's enough omitted that provides interest in spite of that.

It doesn't age great, but it has its fan base. Visually I think it's especially iconic and beautiful, with the old fashioned train and the clothing applying a little more visual depth. It looks like there's more content for this, so that may've expanded the world building further. But on its own, it turned out pretty ok. 7/10
