Glass (2019)

Also on my flight to DC I watched Glass (2019), M. Night Shyamalan's latest film. I was an interesting film, given that it made an unexpected trilogy out of a movie I liked - Unbreakable (2000, 8/10). Set 19 years in the future, Glass picks up on the heels of Split (2016, 6/10), giving us three exceptional characters to follow into a psychiatric hospital.

I wanted to like it more, but it was a little wooden: the characters were there but their behavior felt campy at times. The ending was interesting... but it felt raw and unpolished to a fault. Financing possibly had a bit to do with it. $20m was more than double the production cost of Split at $9m, but a far cry from the $75m of Unbreakable in 2000. And as my brother reminded me, the climax of the film being in a parking lot wasn't a high budget expense.

In any case I thought it was a strange close to the series. Ultimately it may be completely superfluous, but it did give more story to the original characters. 6/10
