Slowly going through some of the Christopher Nolan films I haven't watched, and it brought me to Interstellar, from 2014. To be honest I avoided this film for a while, because it seemed overhyped with the Nolan effect. Fanatisicm bothers me when it comes to reviews, as it conceals how good a film is. I have this opinion about a lot of Marvel films, and I think time is the great equalizer. Interstellar at the time of this review is ranked 27th on the top 250 films of all time, and given that it's not even a decade old that screams overhyped to me.
I will call out that the casting choices are mostly spot on though. Matthew McConaughey is absolutely the star of this show, and without him at the helm I don't think the movie would've been nearly as good as it could've been. Although there's a good breadth of talent cast, I think only Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain really got the spotlight here.
I think the story here is alright, but the length clocking in at almost 3 hours hurts this film. The film feels dragged out at time, and given that Nolan's also not much for editing down his runtimes I don't think it'd be a very interesting repeat watch. And unlike Inception or Dunkirk the visuals and time related aspects of the movie aren't something you can get more out of with another viewing. 7/10
