Knives Out (2019) is a murder mystery surrounded by unpleasant characters. The story itself is pretty clever - it has its share of twists as it chugs along - but it's hard to enjoy what you're watching most of the time. The characters all seem to hate everyone else, and the humor drips out like an IV, somewhat constant but unsatisfying (contrast to Logan Lucky, 2017, 7/10 - which was more consistently entertaining).
Craig's Benoit Blanc seems intriguing as a one off detective, similar to Hercule Poirot in many ways. But he stumbles into clues instead of finds them, so it's unlikely he'll be a mainstay like other detectives. All in all it's a good mystery story, but it feels like a bit of a slog with the characters, and it doesn't feel like enough fun to watch multiple times. 6/10
