Cinerama had Lawrence of Arabia playing in 70mm last week, and it was good to see again. It's nice to see one of the older, longer films that have an intermission in it, and have that slightly more movie-going experience to it. In my opinion it's harder to find, I think the last recent film that tried was the roadshow of The Hateful Eight (2015, 8/10).
Epics do the experience best, but it's typically a time investment people are unwilling to sit through, and directors usually try to keep their movies under 3 hours for audiences. I'll go out of my way to catch one of those movies on the big screen, because there's a magic to those films that doesn't get captured in heavily CGed, overproduced films. But while places like Cinerama or the AFI exist and offer an outlet for classic films, it reminds me there's still an appreciation for the art of cinema. 10/10
