Locke & Key: Season 2 (2021)

24 October 2021

This follow up of the first season continues with the story of Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke as they try to get through a new school year following the events of Season 1. Still kinda following the graphic novel, we're introduced to more of the plot from the books, as well as some familiar (and unfamiliar) keys.

This Season suffered a little with too many plots as it was slightly distracting to follow, but they did put a lot into 10 episodes. And some plot devices suffer from Stupid Children Syndrome (SCS: I'm coining this term since I find it so painful in movies). Examples without too much detail:

  1. Why do you keep a mind control device only your enemies can use in plain sight?
  2. Why don't you block or freeze an elevator if you don't want others to use it?
  3. Why do the characters manage their secrets more or less randomly?
I give the kids in this story a little leniency because ultimately all this is about keeping the story going. But sometimes the decisions they make certainly sting. That said, the pacing was alright (around episodes 3-5 it drags a little) and it succinctly sets up for a season 3 at the end. I think the overall story is more clearly written in the books, so if you have an interest in reading them, it may be a good time before watching this season. 6/10
