My Hero Academia (2016)

4 January 2020

My Hero Academia is an anime series about8 a world of superheroes - 80% of the world develop special abilities, or "quirks", and the others are considered "quirkless". This series focuses around a quirkless Izuku Midoriya, who grows up idolizing the first superhero All Might. He is the narrator of this story, and he's talking about how he becomes the greatest superhero.

At this time I'm two seasons in and find it to be a series that moves at a good pace, and still manages to through interesting wrinkles into the storyline as it progresses. As with superhero shows, it usually progresses with constant introductions of new characters with new abilities. Similar to the lamentable TV show Heroes, if it's not careful with the story progression it could fizzle and die: though it doesn't look like this magna has a writer's strike getting in its way. As of season 2 it has a good pace and interesting characters to keep it engaging. But as with a lot of anime like this I do worry it'll have a difficult time being distinct. 6/10
