Patton (1970) stars George C. Scott as the eventual 4-Star General, with a plot tracing through his actions during WWII (good and bad). Also starring Karl Malden as General Omar Bradley, there's a lot in this story about the tension and politics surrounding war: Patton clashed with Bradley, as well as other Generals, Allies, and the President (Eisenhower).
It won 7 academy awards, including best picture, director (Schaffner), screenplay (Coppola), and Actor (Scott). It's a rather analytic film, really dissecting the General, but not having him as a sympathetic or even tolerable character most of the time. It's a little dated these days, but still an iconic war film. And the opening scene is one that stands out in cinema. 8/10
