Ran (1985) is Akira Kurosawa's adaptation of King Lear in feudal Japan. Ran (Japanese for 'Chaos') is a visually stunning film for its era, with bold colors and cinematography holding your interest in spite of the characters falling deeper and deeper into the abyss. It's an odd film, almost feeling too over the top as an epic style film - epic in grandness and in length (2h42m). I found it to be a stunning film, and a serious undertaking given this was before movie studios adopted CG for manufacturing armies and wars. It doesn't age as well as Kurosawa's other films, but it's really good regardless. 8/10
