Ingmar Bergman is a director I've never followed, though I've heard of some of his work: The Seventh Seal and Scenes from a Marriage, to name two. Criterion released a collection of his works as a box set last year, and I was curious so I ordered the 30-disc set with the intent of going through them.
Disc 1, Smiles of a Summer Night (Sommarnattens leende), 1955, is a story of love and romance, with undertones of jealousy and distress. In a way it feels like a Shakespearean tale, with a dramatic flair and artistic style that didn't feel old or outdated. A light romance from it's time, it had an edge to it that I did not expect, and would recommend if you wanted something a little different 8/10
