The Disasterous Life of Saiki K. (2016)

25 December 2019

This series is about a teenage psychic with pink hair, green glasses and godlike powers existing in high school, hiding his powers from his classmates. He also goes through the series complaining that he wants to be average and blend in, but he makes friends with the very people he's trying to keep away from. It's a fun, strange comedy series with a cast of high school caricatures (the popular girl, the athletic guy, the rich kid, etc.) as well as more anime-like high school caricatures to keep the series appropriately strange (the spirit medium, the fortune teller, the reformed delinquent). All these characters come together in a "dark reunion" of sorts, and antics ensue.

The series is entertaining and worth a watch if you enjoy odd, humorous and relatively inoffensive anime. And there are some overarching plots that surround the episodes and make a weird overall story for the series. It was only written as a two season series (on Netflix the conclusion of the series is listed as Season 3), but a new season (advertised as The Disasterous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened) will be available on Netflix at the end of the year. 7/10
