The New Mutants (2020)

9 May 2021

In the Marvel universe there are two groups: Disney and Non-Disney. The New Mutants exists in the Fox-owned space of the X-Men, and as a result doesn't follow the same rules and formulas that Disney/Marvel does: they're simpler stories, they're without a lot of A-List actors (Maisie Williams was the only name I recognized), and it felt like a relatively small budget (the entire film was in a forest or a small hospital/prison building). It was alright. Ultimately pretty vanilla, the story was pretty predictable, and the characters cliched and uninspired. If you like X-Men/Marvel you'll probably like it, but otherwise it'll be forgettable. 5/10
