The Rescuers (1977) and The Rescuers Down Under (1990) are an interesting pair of films.
The Rescuers Down Under was the first sequel Disney created, and was the first completely digital film. It had a somewhat more complex plot, with a boy getting kidnapped and his death faked, and with Bernard and Bianca's relationship being a small subplot. Considered a part of the "Disney Renaissance" from 1989-99, this film was the least commercially successful and falls into the background compared to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. And rightly so - although the cast included the added voice talent of George C. Scott and John Candy, the technical aspects of this film played out more memorably than the story. That said, there's nothing to really dislike about it, the story's alright, and visually it holds up very well. 6/10

Tonight I watched 3 films, courtesy of Netflix: Anatomy of a Murder (with James Stewart and George C. Scott), The Rescuers Down Under, and The Rescuers. It had been some time since I saw any of them, but it was good to see them with older eyes. Especially The Rescuers - that movie's art, music and production were really impressive for their time, as the opening sequence still beautifully illustrates.
