The Secret of Kells (2009)

2 March 2016

Today I watched a movie that's been on the backburner for a while now: the French/Bulgarian/Irish film, The Secret of Kells (2009). It was a nominee for best animated film alongside Coraline, The Princess and the Frog, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the eventual winner Up.
I gotta admit, although I haven't seen Up in a while now, I think this film is better than Up was. Up's opening steals the film (and it is a great opening, don't get me wrong), but it didn't grasp my interest like Kells did. Between the animation style and deeply integrated music, it's simple story was provided an epic backdrop that really left a positive impression on me.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's free on Amazon Prime and Netflix: 9/10. 9/10
