I've meant to watch The Shining (1980) for a long time, and it's available on Netflix. This film is directed by Stanley Kubrick, whose earlier films I like more than his later ones. It stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, with Danny Lloyd as the kid, and the acting varies between very good and almost over the top. The original story was written by Stephen King (the book is on my reading queue) although it felt like a Kubrick piece instead of something of King's.
I appreciated the impact it had on the horror genre, and I appreciated its craft/cinematography as a whole. It stands out with its story ambiguities and bold visuals that keep it a cut above others. Low on the Kubrick and King ouvres (both have far better works), but on its own, interesting enough. 8/10
