After reviewing The Conjuring I went looking for other horror films to watch and I stumbled upon a Spanish film called The Skin I Live In (ranked #2 on this list). Based originally on a french book by Thierry Jonquet called Mygale (english version: Tarantula), it's a pretty creepy story about a plastic surgeon seeking revenge for the death of his family.
As the story goes it's not for the faint of heart - it's a psychological thriller instead of a supernatural tale of horror. Additionally both the book and film use stylistic decisions to keep the story off-kilter: the book jumps between characters while the movie's director Pedro Almodóvar distracts with his style of artistic cinematography. I'd suggest the book over the film, though think this kind of story really isn't for everyone. It's rated R for disturbing violent content including sexual assault, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, drug use and language, so keep that in mind if you choose to see it. 8/10
