The Villainess (2017)

The Villainess (or Aknyeo, 2017) is a Korean action film that I found earlier this year. Strictly an action film, it's about a woman that kills a bunch of people at the film's start, and wants to end her life after but finds out she's going to have a child - and allows herself to be recruited as a sleeper agent instead.

There's a fair amount of action, and though it slows down a little in the middle as they try to add some story to this film, none of the lulls last terribly long, and nor do they take away from the overall film's progression. The camera angles are a strange, prominent part to this movie: it starts with first person action, goes to following the character at a fixed distance away (think Diablo game, or some of the weirder camera scenes in Pi), and eventually goes to the more detached filming (usually also for non-action scenes). It's fairly distracting, and I'm not sure it helps the film or not.

Overall enjoyable, but kinda generic (I really have no idea why it's called The Villainess). And it kept my attention and did a little more than strictly action, which I liked. 7/10
