Black Widow (2021)

7 August 2021

I'm not a fan of the superhero genre in films these days - if you've talked with me about movies I've probably said as much. Black Widow was a film set further back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), dating to Civil War (2016), it seems dated since we're way past Avengers Endgame (2019), and the phases with Black Widow are over. Though a pandemic didn't do the release any favors either.

To me, the Black Widow movie played out very, very similarly to Scarlett Johansson's other action films nLucy (2014), or Ghost in the Shell (2017): Action-y but otherwise boring, moving toward forgettable. Though I think the advantage of the other action films mentioned is that Johansson was the main character - Black Widow felt like the same supporting role character as she was in every other MCU film, and never really had a story to build from. 5/10
